Becoming The Voice She Once Needed: The Story of Manzi Raissa Micheline Impuhwe

What began as quiet curiosity became a commitment to build, grow, and rise beyond growth.

My journey didn't begin with certainty. It began with curiosity, with a question I couldn't ignore. By day, I carried responsibilities. By night, I carried ambitions to join the tech space. And when the world slept, it was my time, my screen stayed awake: glowing quietly, asking myself to try.

And the web really felt like a foreign language. With HTML, CSS, JavaScript Powerful words that were very distant

I didn't come from a place where people expected you to build applications or dream in code. I came from a place where survival mattered more than having ambition. And still, something inside me kept whispering: What if you could create?..

Learning in the Dark

The early days were heavy. Errors that made no sense. Code that refused to work. Long nights when giving up felt easier to me than even trying one more time.

I questioned myself constantly: Am I smart enough? Do I belong here?. Especially when nothing ran, and I didn't know why.

But then came the small wins, and they really mattered more than I realized. A webpage is loading for the first time. Wow. A bug was fixed after hours of struggle. That was an amazing moment of pride: realizing that I did this. However, each win didn't erase doubt, but it did weaken it.

Growth Without Confidence

Confidence did not lead the way; consistency did. Growth followed

As I moved from web fundamentals into more advanced programs, the challenges didn't disappear; they evolved. The code grew deeper. The expectations are higher. And imposter syndrome knocked harder than ever.

But still, I kept going. Not because I felt confident, but because I learned something essential, even a small thing, along the way: Growth doesn't require confidence. It creates it.

Confidence did not lead the way; consistency did. Growth followed.

What shaped me most wasn't just learning to build systems or write cleaner code. It was learning to solve real problems. To receive feedback without losing myself. To understand that every project was more than technical, it was personal. Every line of code became proof that I was expanding beyond the limits I once believed in.

When Purpose Found Me

Something shifted. I began to see young women standing exactly where I once stood: uninformed, hesitant, unsure, brilliant, but afraid to claim it.

I shared my willingness to help others with those who raised me, Igire Rwanda Organization (IRO). Sharing my willingness to become an instructor. Choosing the way, I never thought I would choose.

But I remember how thrilled I was after being accepted. It was exceptional. I started to hear my past in their questions. I recognized myself in their silence. I saw their hunger to belong.

And I realized: My journey wasn't meant to end with my success alone. Giving back wasn't a grand decision. It was a natural one.

Becoming the Voice I Once Needed

Became the voice I once searched for

I started sharing what I knew. Explaining slowly. Encouraging someone on the edge of quitting. Saying the words I once needed to hear:

"I struggled too. And that doesn't mean you're failing."

I didn't show up perfectly. I wasn't finished either. But I was present. And in teaching, something unexpected happened. Supporting others didn't weaken me; it strengthened me. Teaching clarified my knowledge. And, mentoring healed old doubts.

Each time another young woman believed in herself just a little more, it felt like rewriting history, not just hers, but mine. Because when one woman rises, she can lift many others without losing her own height.

More Than Code

Today, my story isn't just about web development or advanced programs. It's about transformation. About choosing persistence over fear. About turning hard times and pain into purpose. About proving that where you start does not define where you can go.

And to anyone still growing, still learning, still stumbling, this is for you:

  • You don't need to have everything figured out.
  • You need curiosity.
  • You need consistency.
  • You need focus.
  • You need a supportive circle.

Your questions matter, even when no one sees them yet. Your ambition matters, even when it feels small. Because growth begins quietly. And one day, it speaks loudly.

When One Rises, We All Rise

At IRO, we believe that when one woman rises, she lifts others with her. Manzi's journey reflects the power of digital skills, mentorship, opportunities, and a community that creates space for young women to learn, lead, and belong.
